13 July 2004 - ASSE - The current issue of Professional Safety has a lead story (PDF) on the effectiveness of safety incentives in construction. It is evident that companies which want to reduce their experience modification rates, lost-time workday incidences and restricted workday incidences can use safety incentive programs successfully. The study also found that various other factors, such as injury or behavior-based incentive programs, period of incentives and kind of awards, do not change the effectiveness of safety incentive programs in a significant way.

19 June 2004 - Crosby Group Seminar - MACSC will be sponsoring a Rigging Seminar to be held at the Montgomery County Fire Academy on September 29, 2004 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.  The Seminar will cover risk management, basic rigging, inspection of rigging hardware, inspection of slings, slings and their capacities, the rigging triangle and application of hardware.  All contractors who rig materials should send individuals to this seminar to comply with OSHA's competent person requirement for rigging.

31 May 2004 - ENR Article. Construction problems with supports of the vaulted concrete concourse that partially collapsed early on May 23, 2004  at the year-old Terminal 2E at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport will likely be a focus of investigations into the cause of the failure, which killed at least four people.

24 May 2004 - ENR Article. Fatal bridge collapse in Denver, Colorado on May 15, 2004. The following comments were sent to John Young - Skanskausa. Perplexing! Strongly reinforces the need for thorough pre-planning and how unanticipated human error causes a lack of judgment. Food for thought when things aren't going right on your Project. Also, consider this a good preview for the Crisis Management Training.
